Step 1: Come Out of Hiding

“Your need for acceptance can make you invisible in this world. Don't let anything stand in the way of the light that shines through this form. Risk being seen in all of your glory.”
Jim Carrey

To hide is human.

How we hide is unique.

*************

Admittedly, I had a few bullies in my childhood . . . people who took pleasure in using their power over me.

Sometimes they’d actually want something from me.

But more often, it was about trying to make me feel uncomfortable or bad.

  • burning me with a match just after it had been blown out

  • giving me an “Indian burn” on my arm

  • holding me on their lap to tickle me long after it stopped being funny

****************

What’s a kid to do?

You are out-matched

You are out-sized

You’ve been over-powered

There’s really only one thing to do . . .

you hide . . .

  • your feelings (“I don’t care anyway”)

  • your body (“I’ll hurt myself before you can”)

  • your soul (“if I dim my light, you can’t find me”)

******************

And hiding is super effective . . . especially as a child.

. . . until it’s not.

***********

There comes the point when hiding no longer serves a purpose.

HE has moved.

SHE is gone.

Your bully is deceased.

And you’re all grown up . . .

still caged up . . . and left holding the key.

*************

I believe in the power of Truth and Courage
to set us free
.
. . . and the fruit of this level of vulnerability is . . .

Beauty

I call upon YOU to:

come out of the dark

step into the light

shine so brightly that people are drawn to you . . .

THAT is what beauty is all about.

Before you can achieve your most cherished goals, you have to show your face in the light of day.

  • You’re going to feel uncomfortable

  • You’ll probably feel naked at times

  • You’ll likely think that the world sees all your flaws

I’m here to tell you that

NO ONE IS WORRIED ABOUT YOUR FAULTS . . .

because we are only concerned with our own.

IF SOMEONE POINTS OUT A FLAW OF YOURS . . .

it says more about them than you . . . and that’s not your problem.

AND AS AN ADULT, YOU’RE NOT MAKING SPACE FOR BULLIES ANYMORE . . .

because you have stuff to get done and goals to reach.

*****************

It’s time to come out of hiding.

Nothing can be accomplished in the dark.

Embrace your courage,

. . . because, if you’ve come this far, you’re more courageous than you think.

***************

I have a purpose on this Earth . . . and it’s fulfilled every time I help someone feel hope.

Specifically . . . I want to help you

Open the door of Truth

Walk the path of Courage

And love the person you see in the mirror at the end of the day.
